Elizabeth G. Camargo, AIA, is the founding principal of EC Architecture + Design, an architecture and interior design firm based in Miami Beach for over 20 years. She has broad professional experience in residential, commercial and entertainment projects from leading architectural firms in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. Her work is deeply rooted in the unique challenges of coastal architecture, where the impacts of climate change and sea level rise are a daily design consideration. Through her practice, she develops resilient, context-sensitive solutions that respond to Miami Beach’s evolving environmental conditions.
In response to Hurricane Irma, Elizabeth founded the AIA Miami Resilient Recovery Task Force in 2017 to launch the chapter’s Disaster Assistance Program and advance conversations on resilience. She also helped establish the AIA Florida Resilience Committee, strengthening the profession’s awareness of climate-driven challenges across the state. She is currently serving as the 2025 AIA Florida President and serves nationally on the AIA Resilience and Disaster Response Committee.
Elizabeth holds a degree in Architecture and Planning from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and a Master of Science in Architectural Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a focus on environmental design. She has taught extensively at Florida International University’s School of Architecture and participated in design juries at FIU and the University of Miami. She also serves on the City of Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board.
