Katherine Serrano Sosa is an award-winning architect, licensed in New York and New Jersey, and the founder of Rooted Architecture Studio PLLC. She is dedicated to designing spaces that inspire, heal, and connect, with a focus on inclusive and wellness-focused design tailored to her clients’ unique needs.
Born in El Salvador, Katherine immigrated to the U.S. at seven. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2016 with a Bachelor’s in Architecture from Macaulay Honors College at City College of New York. By 26, she became a licensed architect, a remarkable achievement as one of the mere 2% of Latina licensed architects in the U.S. She actively mentors Latinas in architecture through Arquitina and advocates through speaking engagements with various groups.
In 2021, at age of 28, Katherine launched Rooted Architecture Studio PLLC to create transformative spaces for homeowners, investors, healthcare/wellness providers, and nonprofit/community projects. Her firm’s bilingual, client-centered approach prioritizes empowerment, sustainability, inclusivity, and community.
Her work has earned recognition, including being named among the Best Architects on Long Island, a Top 50 Woman in Business by Long Island Business News, and the AIA NYS Young Architect Award recipient in January 2025.
Beyond her architectural practice, Katherine is actively involved in professional and community organizations. She is a Board Member and Sponsorship Committee Co-Chair for the Latina Business Network of New York (LABNNY), and is founding member of the AIA Long Island’s Women in Architecture Committee. Katherine also dedicates time to educating the public on architecture through social media, webinars, courses, and live events, while offering merchandise that celebrates architecture and her Latina heritage.
