Anahita Mojahed

Anahita Mojahed (she/her) is an architectural designer at Utile Design Inc. Growing up the daughter of Iranian immigrants in the suburbs of Boston shaped the way Anahita engaged with the built environment. Occupying primarily white spaces as a brown woman, Anahita experienced the impacts of exclusionary design firsthand at an early age. Passionate about social justice and community engagement, Anahita joined Utile in 2023 with the goal of engaging with the different social and environmental issues that faced the neighborhoods she grew up in and around. Anahita’s design process is grounded in principles of co-authorship and interdependency with the goal of working in community/solidarity with those most marginalized by our society. Having worked in the private and public sectors, Anahita has prioritized elevating community voices as a way to create meaningful social capital. She has worked on residential, institutional, and commercial projects, including large-scale affordable housing master plans, office and research facilities, museums, libraries, and K-12 school projects.
Anahita holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan (2023), where she was the recipient of the Graduate Architecture Thesis Award for Theory/History/Framing, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with a Minor in Urban Landscape Studies from Northeastern University (2019). While at Michigan, Anahita completed a thesis project titled LANDBACK that investigated the question of how architecture could support efforts of decolonization in Boston. Learning from Indigenous perspectives on environmental stewardship and decolonization, LANDBACK investigates Deer Island, which was once the site of an Indigenous internment camp but is presently the main water treatment facility that serves much of the city and state, as the focus of her study. Anahita’s research about how to decolonize architecture and architectural practice has led her to her current role at Utile as the co-lead of the Beyond Land Acknowledgement group.
